Bishte are wild cards in the world of Sibyl. No one has been able to perfectly predict or replicate the birth of one- and the world has yet to figure out the question of how or why sibyllians, seemingly spontaneously, are able to give birth to one.

Physical Description

Bishte are bipedal, humanoid creatures who heavily resemble animals. Generally, it is more common for them to resemble mammals, though smaller critters are not unheard of.

Their humanoid to animal traits ratio is unpredictable, though usually the animalistic traits outweigh the humanoid ones.

Range and Population

The birth of a bishte is a rather rare phenomenon, but not so uncommon that the sight of one is surprising. They can be found anywhere in Sibyl but are most likely to be born in areas with unpredictable weather.

Culture

Bishte tend to take on the culture of the family they are born into. Research at the moment isn’t entirely sure the exact cause of the bishte, thus far they’ve only found correlation between the birth and intense weather patterns in the area. Many cultures interpret the birth of a bishte differently, some believe it to be a blessing, a sign of good to come, good luck, etc.. but they all agree the birth to be the will of divinity.

Bishte children tend to be more difficult to take care of than others simply because of their animalistic abilities and tendencies before further development- what they are capable of are constant discoveries for new parents who aren’t sure exactly what to expect, as every bishte is different for the most part.

The difficulty of rearing one isn’t to say that they tend to be neglected or abandoned, though that is not unheard of- Under most circumstances giving up a bishte child is seen as a slight against the gods.

Meta Notes

Though unknown in-universe, the birth of a bishte is less divine intervention and more an accident of nature and timing. When Sibyl’s atmosphere mingles with excess magic, it creates a magically charged storm, where the otherwise impossible becomes possible. The storms can range from mild to devastating. Mild storms can form anywhere, while larger storms tend to form around places with bigger pockets of excess magic (think where a VERY high level spell is cast or where lower tier spells are cast very frequently.) or very powerful artifacts that leech magical radiation into the area.

These magical storms, specifically mild to semi severe ones, are what create the bishte. When a storm gathers and a mother in labor is in range, the unborn baby can be struck with an invisible, magical bolt. When this happens and there are two babies being born in the same area at the exact same time, usually a humanoid and a regular animal- soul essence is traded between the two beings. This makes humanoid creatures into bishte, and awakens the normal animal to have human-like sapience and communication skills (baby level, they still need to learn).

This essentially makes Bishte and awakened animals two sides of the same coin. If they are to meet, though they do not know why, they will have a very strong connection- a soul bond.
